How To Apply

1. Please use the Proposal Outline Format when organizing project information.
2. Please print clearly or type when completing the proposal cover page. For the rest of the proposal, please use a word-like document and double space paragraphs.
3. Avoid sending photocopies from teacher manuals, kits, or instructional web sites. The Fund is promoting original and creative plans.
4. Classroom teachers and/or assistants must be involved in the planning of all projects under the smaller grants. Larger grants may be lead by senior officers in the district.

March 15, 2007
Beginning in the Academic School year of 2007/2008:
August 1st and February 1st will be the deadlines with two months before notifications of awards.


Proposal Outline Format

Use this section to organize your application. Please complete all sections before submitting your proposal. In your word document, bold and italize the section titles before setting up the information into paragraphs under each new heading. For section 5 and 6, you may insert charts.

Section 1: Proposal Cover Page

Section 2: Endorsement

Your project must be approved by the school principal or superintendent. A letter must be sent on official school letterhead and signed by the designated official. This letter should include approval and support by the school district. Please include a statement about employment and that the school agrees to alert the Fund of any changes in personnel or the project.

The principal or superintendent must give his/her seal of approval on the project.
Please do not apply without his/her consent.


Section 3: Objectives/Standards

Clearly define your student learning objectives for your project. How will the project enhance your curriculum? What New York State Standards will you be addressing? The objectives should be realistic, directly related to the project, measurable and attainable within the time frame of the project.

State clearly the New York State Standards addressed by the project and give details on how to apply them in your classroom/district.


Section 4: Methods/Strategies

Describe in detail exactly what you want to do in your classroom that will produce the outcomes described in section 3. Include the nature, duration, and intensity of your contact with students for this project. Clearly state all educational improvements you will make in your classroom and how you intend to carry out those improvements. If utilizing a guest speaker, how will the speaker interact with the students. Show all learning involved in the project. ***This section should look like a well-developed lesson plan with explicit details on what students are actively doing, learning, and how being impacted by the project.

Section 5: Project Timetable

Please construct a timetable that shows all the key project activities and estimate the amount of time each activity will take. Create a table or timeline of key deadlines and activities.

For example: if the project takes 6 months to complete, what are the steps needed to complete the project and when will each step be accomplished for the next step to occur and the project to be successfully completed.


Section 6: Budget/Rationale

1.) Provide a cost for each item for which you seek funds. Make an itemized list. Where will the item come from? Be as accurate as possible and up to date with prices, including sales tax and shipping charges (where they apply). Include suppliers information.

2.) Describe all items in the budget and explain how they will be used to improve student learning and achieve the objectives described in section 3. You must justified the need for equipment that might be a significant part of your budget.

3.) Provide a short rationale for why the funding is so important and how the project is above what the school offers.

If requesting money for workshops, please provide a detailed plan of action which includes what's involved in the training/workshop (agenda, materials, outcomes), how the skills/training will be implemented in the school (to teachers and students), and what follow through steps will be taken to provide for the success of this training. Also include addresses/contact on company providing workshop and websites where apply.

Section 7: Evaluation

Upon completion of the project, you must prepare a final report in which you will provide evidence (qualitative and quantitative) that your project achieved the goals previously set. In this section include plans for collecting data that measure student learning throughout the project. "How do you plan to measure outcomes and obtain feedback from the students?" Keep this question in mind when writing this section.
